Philadelphia Flyers' GM Chuck Fletcher can't mess this up. The next few days are going to be extremely important for the team's future.
Obviously, the assets that a Claude Giroux trade could be bring would accelerate the "retool" process that the Flyers are in. That's also why Chuck Fletcher didn't pull the trigger yet. And he is doing the right thing.
When you look at what the Canadiens got for Ben Chiarot, or more recently the huge return that the Blackhawks got for Brandon Hagel, Fletcher knows that he could obtain even more for Giroux.
But his hands are pretty much tied up. Claude Giroux controls his own destiny and Fletcher could be forced to accept a trade that we wasn't too keen to take in the first place.

In another way, what is Fletcher going to do with Ivan Provorov? The defenseman could yield a huge return for the Flyers, and considering the fact that the two sides doesn't seem to get along anymore, it may be better for them to part ways.
Same question for James Van Riemsdyk. If you want to be competitive and improve the team this summer, you have to free up some space this summer, and trading/buying out JVR contract could obviously help.
Anyways, we'll see in the next few days if Chuck Fletcher is the good person to lead the organization to a fast rebuild this summer. If it's not the case, the Flyers should probably look for someone else before the big deadlines like free agency and the draft this summer.
