Flyers' fans biggest complaint about Chuck Fletcher since he took over as Flyers General Manager back in 2019 is that he has not been aggressive enough. More specifically, and especially on the trade market. It seems, according to reports that as we rapidly approach this year's trade deadline, that will continue to remain the case. Fletcher has reportedly pulled out of two trades - one a potentially major one; has traded an assist in Forward Isaac Ratcliffe for "Future Considerations", which is to say he traded him for what amounts to nothing except a contract opening and some (very little) cap space; and it's been reported his plan at the deadline is to get "reclamation projects" back in exchange for any veteran players he ships out.

His last trade for a "reclamation project" happened around last year's trade deadline when he sent long time Flyers Captain, Claude Giroux to Florida in exchange for Forward, Owen Tippett. In all fairness, that trade has turned out not to be a terrible decision considering Tippett's ability to thrive under now head coach John Tortorella. However, Tippett isn't every player, and most reclamation projects are termed that way because reclamation projects are a lot of work, and players that fall into this category usually require a lot of work on their skillsets.
At last Chuck Fletcher update, he was still insisting the Flyers are in "roster tweak" mode rather than a "rebuild mode"; however, the head coach he himself hired is on a completely different page. Tortorella admitted today in his post-practice media availability that the Flyers aren't making the playoffs this season, and also admitted that next season is expected to be just as much a grind as this season, and essentially said that getting back into contention in this league will "take time", insinuating he's recognizes the team is in a full rebuild mode and knows that this team is nowhere near ready to compete with the best teams in the league.
Is Tortorella the right coach for type of players Fletcher wants to acquire? Quite possibly. Does he have the ability to give them the time and attention that "reclamation projects" need? Maybe. However, it's still worth wondering if prospects with legit potential are actually a better target for a team currently rebuilding than reclamation projects that may require more work that this organization can handle.
