In the newest episode of his 32 thoughts podcast with Jeff Marek, Elliotte Friedman questions and details the rollercoaster of emotions Claude Giroux must be feeling as his time in Philly comes to an end.
While most fans would look at Giroux and say «Why would that guy want to stay? He's coming to the end of his contract, the Flyers aren't going go make the playoffs. Why wouldn't he want to easily go and chase the Stanley Cup?»; Friedman notes that reality is finally setting in for the longtime captain.
Friedman states that watching Giroux's family at the All-Star Game indicated just how much they love the city of Philly and how much his family means to him. «Being a Flyer means a lot to Claude Giroux,» he said.

Friedman also compares the emotions Giroux is experiencing now to somebody quitting a job. Reminiscing about quitting his own job at The Score in favour of CBC, Friedman had this to say:
«They had a goodbye party for me and it was very emotional. There were a whole bunch of pictures on a bristol board and everybody signed itClaude Giroux; the reality is hitting him now.»
Unironically, 14 years to this day, Claude Giroux made his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 29 2008. Since then, Giroux is now the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia.
«He's going through that moment that I can empathize with that he knows this is probably going to be the end,» says Friedman. «I think it's really hitting him to talk about it.»
Before he finished his segment, Friedman uttered words that may bring teardrops to some Flyers fans' eyes. Bittersweetly, Friedman says that «To all of us on the outside, of course you're going to go chase the Stanley Cup and I think he will, but even though he might be leaving for a better chance to win, that guy's a Flyer.»
