As every NHL team undergoes a rebuild, it's wise for the general manager not to trade away literally everyone on the roster, as some level of consistency with the best players from the previous general manager is necessary.
There's no doubt that the GM taking over could obtain great value for these players, and it would be prudent for them to do so. However, there are times when certain players need to stay to provide the team with credibility and the ability to attract new players through various means.
Travis Konecny, who has been with the Flyers for the past seven seasons, was drafted in 2015 as the 24th overall pick in the first round. Widely recognized as a goal-scoring winger and a driving force on the line, TK, as he is commonly known, certainly had a remarkable year last season, especially considering the team's challenging situation.
Despite being hampered by an injury during the last season, he managed to play in 60 games, scoring 31 goals with 30 assists for a total of 61 points, accumulating 77 penalty minutes and contributing 15 power-play points.

With numerous young players on the verge of joining the lineup, TK believes that he wants to broaden his role and take on more of a leadership position, which would be beneficial for many.
He states, "
I tried to take on a little bit more of a leadership role. You can ask anyone, for me, it's not so much about the in-the-room dynamics. I still engage in jokes and try to maintain a relatively light atmosphere.
"
This is Konecny discussing his leadership role with the Flyers in the previous season.
Players like Cutter Gauthier and Tyson Foerster, who are set to become NHL regulars within the next two years, will be seeking players like TK to admire, ask questions, and ideally enhance their skills even further to become elite forwards with the Flyers.
