When you look back over Philadelphia Flyers history, there is one recurring theme ever since Legend Ron Hextall left the Flyers: They need a Goalie. While the goalie carousel has been going round and round for the Flyers over the year, with players like Steve Mason, Ilya Bryzgalov, Robert Esche, and Michael Leighton to name a few. A few have had some success, when you look at Steve Mason, others have been disaster signings, like Ilya Bryzgalov.

Finally, Philadelphia drafted Goalie Carter Hart. Labeled as the future, he had a fantastic start to his career. He has been mired by some injuries, but very solid when healthy. Hart has been crippled by shoddy defense over the past two seasons, but now we are seeing what he can do with a competent defense that does not leave him out to dry every few minutes.
They also drafted Samuel Ersson in the 5th round of 2018 draft. Ersson is currently on a two-year contract and is intended to be Carter Harts Back-up. However, some would say Ersson has actually played better then Hart this year. Posting a 2.33 Goals Against Average (5th in NHL). He has been rock solid, especially while Hart was dealing with a mystery illness that made him miss some time this year. His play has led some to question if Ersson can be the future and has made Hart expendable come trade deadline time. Both Goalies have impressive Record with Hart Posting a 12-8-3 for 27 points vs Ersson's 11-5-3 for 25 points.

While there is another goalie tandem that may challenge Hart and Ersson for best in the league in Boston's Linus Ullmark (last year's Vezina Winner) and Jeremey Swayman (7th in NHL in GAA and 5th in Save Percentage). They have led the Bruins to the best record in the East and in a constant battle for first in the league, even with the slew of injuries that Bruins have dealt with.
Even with the Bruins Goalies, Ersson and Hart have become one of the best duos in the league, they give the Flyers a chance to win every time they step on the ice. It is such an advantage for a team to have two goalies they can rely on; it also allows you not to overuse either one and keep both fresh. Once upon a time, the Flyers couldn't find the right goalie, now it seems they have found two!
