Ex-Flyers Head Coach Laviolette Slams New Team In Post-Game Conference
After getting rid of Gerard Gallant, the New York Rangers hired Peter Laviolette during the off-season.
As of yet, his tenure has not been great as he was unable to defeat his interstate rivals, the New York Islanders, in a pre-season game.
"I thought our execution was way off the mark," said Laviolette as per Vincent Z. Mercogliano . "We couldn't make passes, couldn't get shots off just off the end of our stick and not executing well. It's unacceptable, the first half of that game. It's not who we are or who we want to be."
The purpose of pre-season games is to evaluate teams, experiment, and see where prospects are in their development. Are Laviolette's expectations known to the new team?

The Rangers lost 5-3 in an exhibition game, but Laviolette took them to task regardless.
The team failed to deliver on fundamentals, primarily backchecking, according to Laviolette.
"Backchecking is a universal language," Laviolette said. "There's no system involved there. Finishing your checks and competing pucks is a universal language. Execution has to be a universal language. And, so, there's no excuses for that."
It appears, however, that the tone for the team has already been set, as Laviolette will emphasize accountability and fundamentals of hockey, such as fore-checking and back-checking.
For Laviolette, there can be no excuses.
