Now that the new NHL season is upon us, the trade season will also begin to heat up as NHL teams settle into their rosters and gain a better idea of potential acquisitions to strengthen their teams. A few weeks ago, numerous rumours were suggesting that the Philadelphia Flyers had attempted to acquire unsigned forward Shane Pinto from the Ottawa Senators.
The initial speculation was that Shane Pinto, along with Mathieu Joseph, might be heading to the Flyers in exchange for prospects and draft picks. However, it seems that the trade rumour has evolved, with Shane Pinto no longer being available as the Ottawa Senators have expressed their desire to retain the 22-year-old center.
Now, it appears that the Flyers are open to acquiring Mathieu Joseph if there is a need for him on their team. However, the Senators would need to include a sweetener in the deal to make it happen. This information comes from Elliot Friedman of the "32 Thoughts" podcast.

To assist the Senators in making the deal work, the Flyers would require a high-end prospect in addition to Joseph. This is because the Senators need to shed $3,000,000 in salary to accommodate Pinto's contract.
The recent signing of defenseman Jake Sanderson, who will earn $8 million per year, despite only playing 77 games in one year of his career, has further complicated the situation for the Senators. Pinto believes that his compensation should not be less than what Sanderson is receiving.
With Steve Staios now serving as the president of hockey operations and the new owner, Michael Andlauer, in place, hockey fans are eagerly awaiting to see if a trade will materialize between the Flyers and the Senators.
