Back in 2015, the Flyers drafted Ivan Fedotov in the seventh round, 188th overall, with high hopes of making him their next starting goaltender. However, after several years, Fedotov did not make an appearance with the Flyers as he chose to remain in Russia during this time.

In 2022, when the war in Ukraine broke out, Fedotov, standing at an imposing 6 feet 8 inches and weighing 212 pounds, was arrested by Russian officials on allegations of evading military service. Subsequently, he was sent to northern Russia to fulfill his military service requirements, spending a year in service.
Upon completing his military service, it was expected that Fedotov would return to the Flyers, as his contract extended into the 2023-2024 season. However, due to a memorandum of understanding suspended between the NHL and the KHL, he decided to remain with his current team, the CSKA, for an additional two years.
Today, Fedotov finally broke his silence and held a press conference with his Russian team owners to clarify the situation and address the world.

The Flyers took precautions during the intervening years by drafting Samuel Ersson and Felix Sandstrom to strengthen their goaltending corps. Additionally, with Carter Hart as their main goaltender, the Flyers acquired Alexei Kolosov from the KHL. The 21-year-old goaltender was selected in the third round, 78th overall, in the 2021 NHL draft.
If Kolosov proves to be successful, he could serve as a viable replacement for Fedotov, allowing the Flyers to carry on as usual.
