The Flyers opened up the season on the road in Columbus and left with a 4-2 Win. Coots and Farabee broke in on a 2 on 0 with Farabee buring a beauty. Hart was the 1st Star of the game with a strong performance and Konecny took 3rd Star honors.
The second game was the only low point of the first 5 games. A 1pm Saturday afternoon start in Ottawa.

The 3rd game was the Flyers home opener against a Vancouver Canucks squad who had recently handed the Edmonton Oilers a 8-1 loss. The Flyers handed Vancouver a 2-0 loss. The Flyers scored 2 goals on 42 shots on net. Coots scored a beauty of goal on a penalty shot, his 1st goal in 22 months.(2nd Star of the Game). Zamula scored his 1st NHL goal and picked up 3rd Star of the game. Carter Hart took the shutout and 1st Star of the game honors.

The 4th game was another victory, this time against the high powered Edmonton Oilers. Philly showed another strong performance with a 4-1 Win with 32 shots on net. Walker had a short-handed goal, Atkinson had 2 goals and earned 1st Star. Tippett got 2nd Star and Hart got 3rd Star of the game.

The 5th game, even though it was an OTL, was one of the best. This 5-4 overtime loss, (40 shots on goal), showed consistency. This was a road game in Dallas, against a Dallas team that many critics are predicting to be Western Conference Finalists.

Dallas came out roaring with 2 early 1st period goals. Ersson looked shaky early but settled in.
There were a couple points in this game where Flyer fans are used to throwing in the towel. That point where in the past, you'd get that frustrating, hopeless feeling. This team this year never seems to give up.
Konecny rightfully earned 3rd Star with an amazing effort, scoring his second short-handed goal of the game. Walker and Konecny scored TWO short-handed goals on the same penalty kill.
