Now that the draft is over and teams have their new and returning prospects ready to go, NHL teams usually hold a development camp right after the draft.

This camp gives the coaches, general manager, and other members of the management team a chance to see where their prospects are in terms of development and begin the work of moulding these players into their respective team's ideas.
A familiar face returned to the Flyers' development camp this week. Yes, John LeClair was on the ice and was giving some instructions to young players. However, the familiar face is Cara Morey.
She holds the position of head women's hockey coach at Princeton University, and over the past three years, she has been assisting the Philadelphia Flyers during the development camp.

Her resume speaks for itself. A Canadian from Hensall, ON, she was a gold medalist with the Canadian national women's team under 22 in 2000. She's a two-time finalist for Ivy League Coach of the Year. She also coached the Canadian national team and was a sports star at Brown University.
Even though she has worked with the Flyers for three years, every time she steps on the ice at the beginning of every development camp, she forgets that she has a different look than the other players, which happens to be a ponytail.
"I always go and ask the guys how my ponytail looks before practice because I know there are cameras, and I think it breaks the ice. It's just funny," said Coach Cara Morey.

As time passes, Coach Morey feels that the sight of a woman standing on the bench of an NHL game, whether as an assistant or a head coach, is not far from the distant future. I tend to agree with her, as numerous women have entered professional sports and have begun entering the ranks of coaching.
