Felix Sandstrom, the Philadelphia Flyers' goaltender, has experienced a whirlwind of changes in just a few days. After being sent down to the AHL for some "conditioning," Sandstrom has now been recalled and placed on the injury reserve due to an upper-body injury, adding another twist to his season.
Sandstrom's recent journey began when he was assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on October 31st. He had not seen game time for over a month, with his last appearance in an exhibition match with the Flyers dating back to September 27th.
Last season, as a backup for the Flyers, the 26-year-old goaltender played 20 games, recording a 3-12-3 record with a 3.72 goals-against average and an .880 save percentage. In contrast, he performed notably better for the Phantoms, boasting a 2.39 GAA and .911 SV% in seven starts. Similar impressive numbers were seen during his previous season with Lehigh Valley.
