I always find it fascinating to see potential trades that fell through, whether it's at the draft, throughout the season, or in the offseason. Some of these potential deals could have significantly altered a team's course, leading them in a completely different direction.

With the power of the Internet and social media, it's becoming increasingly common to hear about deals that almost happened but ultimately didn't materialize. One such deal involved the Flyers, who were prepared to trade for former Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat during the 2022 draft.
It seemed that former general manager and president Chuck Fletcher was determined to make an aggressive move to acquire elite talent, aiming to bolster the team's lineup as their offence was struggling and falling apart. However, his ambitious retooling plans didn't pan out as expected.

When the Senators made a deal with the Blackhawks, surrendering a first, second, and third-round draft pick in 2022 and 2024, the Flyers made the right decision by selecting Cutter Gauthier with the 5th overall pick. Gauthier is expected to become a key member of the Flyers within the next year or two.
To add insult to injury, the Senators were forced to trade DeBrincat three days ago after he expressed his desire to leave the team in the long term.
The Senators ultimately moved him to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for four pieces, though this trade didn't fully maximize the value they could have received if DeBrincat had been committed to a longer-term deal.
With Fletcher no longer in charge and Briere and Jones now running the team, I expect these individuals to make the right trades at the right time, ultimately improving the Flyers in the long run.
