As advertised, head coach John Tortorella is well-known for his defensive style of hockey, and as a teacher of the game, he wants players to prioritize defense before offense. In his second year with the team, it appears that his players are listening, and they are achieving commendable defensive numbers.
When it comes to penalty kill efficiency, they boast an impressive 82.8%, ranking them 12th best in the league. Additionally, their goals against average is 2.9, positioning them as the 10th best in the league for overall defensive play.
However, a persistent sore spot for the Flyers, as well as a part of John Tortorella's legacy, is the lackluster power play. Throughout his tenure with various teams, the power play has consistently struggled, and he has yet to make effective changes.
After a disappointing 0-6 performance against the New York Rangers, Torts abruptly informed the media that he had no desire to discuss that aspect of the game and promptly left.

The Flyers' power play currently converts at a dismal 10.3%, ranking them 29th out of 32 teams. This is an unacceptable figure, and a change is imperative.
According to The Hockey News, there is one player on the Flyers' roster who could significantly contribute to their power play
Garnet Hathaway. The underutilized forward, who played only eight minutes and 16 seconds against the Rangers, averages 10 1/2 minutes per game.
The 32-year-old right winger, standing at six feet two inches and weighing 212 lbs, could be an excellent net-front presence. He would be a tough player to move, capable of scoring gritty goals. Introducing this kind of player could ignite the power play and potentially convert more of their chances.
The Flyers will return to action on Tuesday, November 28th, playing against the Hurricanes at home. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM Eastern.
