The frustration Matvei Michkov felt at SKA St. Petersburg culminated when they decided to loan him to HC Sochi.

In light of the tragedy that occurred there, many thought Michkov's move would negatively affect him.
Michkov, for better or worse, has proven that he can adapt, as he originally aimed to lead the KHL in scoring.
"Matvei was extremely frustrated not playing. He had the goal of being the top scorer in the league."

I didn't think my enthusiasm about him could get any bigger but damn I think it just did

18yo and he's like yeah, imma lead the KHL in scoring

Then he was made a healthy scratch, a demotion, and benched as a result of Roman Rotenberg's whims.
As a result, the team loaned the frustrated forward to Sochi, where he has been a huge asset. He has been a point-per-game player since he arrived, with 3 assists in three games.
As a result, he has regained time on ice, not found in SKA, with 15:42 TOI, 3 SOG, 1 Hit, and 2 Blocked Shots in his game against Severstal, which means he is playing defense as well as offense.
On and off the ice, Michkov's determination to win still shows.
