After appearing with four teams in the past four seasons, this former Flyers goalie is stepping up and seemingly saving his current clubs season. Former Flyers backup goalie Martin Jones is stepping up between the pipes for the Toronto Maple leafs and has them in playoff contention as of late.
As of January 22, Martin Jones sits with a record above .500 with a 9-6-1 record including two shutouts, a .911 save percentage and a 2.64 GAA on the year. In his past five starts, Jones has recorded over 25 saves three times, including 28 saves in back to back games.
Jones had a short stint with the Flyers during the 2021-22 season where he won 12 games with a .900 save percentage and a 3.43 GAA. Although the 2021-22 season is one to forget for the Flyers and the veteran goaltender, many thought that Jones was on the tail-end of his career after he spent his previous six seasons as the man in San Jose for the Sharks.
This season has been a resurgence for Jones and he has the Toronto Maple Leafs on the road to turn their season around. Jones did not make the Maple Leafs roster to start the season and began the 2023 season in the AHL. After being called up, Jones made the most of his opportunity that included a four-game stretch where Jones was lockdown for Toronto, stopping 103 of 106 shots and winning four straight games.
