In an interview done with NBC Sports, former Flyer Scott Hartnell who had both Barry Trotz and John Tortorella spoke on the pair and their coaching philosophies.
After being traded to Columbus from Philly, Hartnell had nothing but praise for John Tortorella.
"He's a very demanding coach, a very honest coach...He wants you to put in the effort, the work in the summer, the work in training camp, the work throughout the whole season," he told NBC.
Accountability, responsibility and hard work are core elements of Torts' style and something the Flyers desperately need. No ego's, just hard work.

Hartnell added that where the Flyers are at right now, discipline and accountability is exactly what's missing.
For Trotz, Hartnell said much of the same.
"Don't think he has the personality of Tortorella or the interview prowess of Tortorella, but he's a demanding coach... a very, very good teacher. High hockey IQ to get the best out of everyone."
Trotz is known and well respected in this league. Hartnell says he is a defensive coach but still allows individuality.
"If you look at what he did with Mat Barzal, his first year in the league, I think he had a bunch of points but they were out of the playoffs."
Harnell said both are great but a theme just keeps on repeating itslef. That is, Torts is the man.
"I wish I would've had him at 21, 22 years old...Trotz was good, I started when I was 18, but the penalties, maybe a missed back check here or there, nobody told me I couldn't do it because I was scoring goals and stuff."
