In their most recent edition of the 32 thoughts podcast, Elitotte Friedman and Jeff Marek shed some insight on who the Flyers have been looking at for their head coaching vacancy. Particularly, they spoke on the second round of interviews and who made or did not make the cut.
The first shocking revelation is that Jim Montgomery, a man people were calling Fletcher's favorite, did not pass in the second round of interviews. In fact, Friedman believes he never even got a first one.
Newly relieved Bruce Cassidy on the other hand, is getting a long look. The second round of interviews will begin once the first meeting with Cassidy is done.

The five alleged suspects left standing are as follows:
Tortorella, Vellucci, who's first interview went extremely well, Tocchet, Cassidy and Trotz.
Surprisingly, some very qualified guys like DeBoer, Berube, Babcock are not there. As of right now, there is no clear leader, but Vellucci seems to have a lead. His first meeting with the management went extremely well according to sources. Trotz on the other hand, may or may not even require a second look simply because of his stature and respectability within the NHL.
The Flyers are definitely taking their sweet time here but who can blame them. They are extremely fortunate to have this amazing crop of experienced men behind the bench. Taking your time to choose the correct one for the future is a luxury the team needs to exploit.
