John Tortorella is known to be brash, distasteful, disrespectful and demanding towards his players. However, if there is one thing that is certain, it's that Torts has his fair share of haters but has a lot of people behind his back too.

Flyers reporter Charlie OConnor is one of them.
"I think Torts is a good coach, much better than many on Twitter give him credit for being. Philly fans would love his fiery attitude too. My worry isn't that he'd be a disaster, but that he'd improve PHI just enough to put them back in the muddled middle for another 5 years."

Torts has won the Stanley Cup and Jack Adams Award twice and was the first American-born NHL coach to reach 500 NHL wins.
When Martin St. Louis took the job as the Habs coach, one of the first guys he got on the phone with was Tortorella.
"I compare him to a tough dad. Rules, accountability, demanding and respectful; the values that Torts lives by are the same values I grew up with."

St. Louis also said that Torts wanted the best for his players and the players wanted the best for themselves. But as a young guy like Cam York, Morgan Frost or Bobby Brink, you don't always know what the best is. And that's where it's helpful to have a mentor to show and guide you.
"You talk to a lot of guys who had Torts and they might not like him at the time but they look back at what he did for them and go ah it makes sense. He has a misleading reputation and when he's fiery and everything... He's a guy that shows a lot of love and is fair."
