Friedman reveals the real reason Fletcher was fired
The appetite for change in Flyers management had been swirling for several months if not over a year. During his five-year tenure as general manager the decisions he made left numerous Flyers fans and pundits scratching their heads as to why he would make such odd moves including signing players to long-term contracts who have been known to have injuries along with not able to move players to recoup assets.
As the Wells Fargo Arena emptied over this year and the ire of fans grew louder, Flyers chairman Dave Scott had to make a change. The thought was that the Flyers would move at the end of the season and begin their search during the summer.
However, Sportsnet and 32 thoughts podcaster Elliot Friedman mentioned that after the debacle that was the trade deadline this season, management decided to move up the shake-up schedule.
In my opinion, this move was long overdue having watched Fletcher make very unusual moves and signings or lack of moves in his five years at the helm.
Honestly, the Flyers are a mess it's going to take a minor miracle to clean up this team and put it back on the right track to be competitive once again.
