Gary Bettman Has Issued a Warning to all 32 Teams
Today, Gary Bettman and the NHL issued a warning to all 32-teams ahead of March 3rd's NHL trade deadline in hopes to make teams think twice when trading specific players.
The NHL will be investigating any teams who makes a trade involving an injured player, which is illegal.
The NHL released a memo to teams this morning saying that it will "closely scrutinize" trades where injured players are acquired with the intent of keeping them on LTIR until the playoffs.
This could impact the market for players like Nyquist, Monahan, Henrique, etc.
While the NHL isn't outright banning any such moves, it says it will investigate transactions to see if they constitute circumvention of the CBA.

This is also a warning to teams who choose to abuse the long-term injury reserve loophole throughout the season, where they then proceed to activate that player for the postseason, which doesn't affect the cap hit.
