The story of Shane Gostisbehere has certainly left many Flyers fans scratching their heads, wondering why they would give up on this defenseman. The decision to let him go for practically nothing to the Arizona Coyotes falls on the shoulders of former general manager and president of hockey operations, Chuck Fletcher.
The trade that sent Ghost, as he's well known, was completed on July 22, 2021. The Flyers sent Ghost along with two draft choices to the Coyotes and received nothing in return. To make this deal worse, Fletcher decided to eat Ghost's salary to make the deal work.
Before this deal, Ghost did suffer several setbacks due to injuries over the years with the Flyers; however, a player of his calibre should have received at least a draft pick or a prospect for his level of talent.
After his short time with the Coyotes, the Arizona organization traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a third-round pick in 2026.
During the summer of 2023, the Detroit Red Wings gave him a one-year, $4.125 million contract, and since that deal was made, his production level has returned to the levels people expected.

Red Wings fans are seeing that telltale shot that Ghost is well known for, and he is starting to connect repeatedly. They are hoping the Detroit Red Wings will snap out of their non-playoff streak."
