In what is likely his last interview as a Philadelphia Flyer, James van Riemsdyk expressed his frustration that he was not traded at the NHL trade deadline, despite the Flyers entering a multi-year rebuild and expected to get much younger. JvR admitted that, while he loved being a Flyer, not having a chance to chase down a Cup this season with a contender was very disappointing to him.
"I'm assuming they are going to get younger, and that's the direction they will go," JvR said when asked about his future with the team. "I'm assuming I won't be back."
Van Riemsdyk's lack of trade at the deadline was reportedly due to former Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher being unable to find him a home. As the Flyers look to rebuild, it seems likely that JvR will be traded this off-season, leaving behind a team he enjoyed playing for but looking for a chance to compete for a Cup elsewhere.
