During the summer months, it was widely expected that the Philadelphia Flyers would begin to dismantle their roster, as management and ownership announced to the world that the team would begin its rebuilding phase.

This style of roster management has never been done by the Flyers before, and with a new general manager and president, there was much speculation on what would happen going forward.
General manager Danny Briere got to work and managed to move three pieces off his roster, including beleaguered defenseman Ivan Provorov.
After the Pride Night incident, things were not the same for Provorov and the Flyers, and he was moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets. One of the players who returned to the Flyers was from the Los Angeles Kings, and that player was Sean Walker.

Walker, a right-hand defenseman, has found himself nestled in the top four of the team and has become the second-best defenseman with the Flyers. He currently holds 10 points in 20 games and is a +6.
With Rasmus Ristolainen and Marc Staal returning from injury, their blueline will be crowded and his ice could fall. The Flyers have a few questions to answer on whether to trade him at the trade deadline or look at re-signing him in the new offseason.
Insider Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period gave his explanation of what could happen to Walker.
«Speaking with those close to the situation, the Flyers are now evaluating all avenues with Walker, including potentially re-signing him. While we are a ways away from any possible extension, and the Flyers need much more time to evaluate things, it isn't completely out of the question that Walker could be retained by the club. This would also depend on the player, who may want to test free agency after such a good season, as one person suggested to me.»
If the Flyers are serious about making trades to help improve the foundation, as the general manager explained a few days ago, a trade at the deadline for Walker should be made, as he is 29 years old and is currently at the height of his career.
The Flyers could recuperate a first-round draft pick and a prospect for his services, as there are numerous teams throughout the league looking for defensive help.
