Matvei Michkov was benched by SKA head coach Roman Rotenberg during the final exhibition match. He sat during the entire second period of the game before that. Early in the KHL preseason, Michkov saw some playing time on the second line, but after that, he was designated as the 13th forward and saw as little as 8 minutes of action.
Now that the regular season has begun, it seems to be more of the same. Prior to Saint Petersburg's first regular season game with Dynamo Moscow, Matvei Michkov was listed as a healthy scratch. Per SKA.
Matvei Michkov obviously still has a lot to prove to the higher-ups. There are even rumours that Michkov would be reassigned backto the MHL, where he previously played. Since the MHL is the second-tier league after the KHL, Michkov would represent SKA-1946 St. Petersburg.
In the KHL, Matvei has not played much, and for the time being, it appears that will continue. Since it is difficult to tell what is really happening abroad, we will have to wait and see as the season progresses.
