The 2023 NHL draft was one of the most anticipated drafts in recent memory, comparable to the excitement surrounding Sidney Crosby's draft year.

The first ten slots were dominated by offensive-laden prospects, some of whom were even hailed as generational talents. The Flyers had hoped to secure a top-five pick, but fate had them sitting in the 7th position. Consequently, they chose Matvei Michkov with their selection.
However, this decision has sparked a flurry of rumours across the internet, questioning whether it was the right move for the Flyers. Several reasons have been cited that could potentially be catastrophic for the team. These include concerns about Michkov's homeland being embroiled in a war with Ukraine, reports of apparent issues with his head coach, which might indicate a problem with his character, and the fact that he has a three-year KHL contract in place.

While most of this speculation lacks concrete evidence and may be mere hearsay or unfounded rumours, it is worth noting that there was a tweet today indicating that Michkov's name was missing from the roster of SKA's hockey team.
He may not have been transferred to that lineup yet, and the team is awaiting the completion of formalities before listing him on the roster.
Regardless of these uncertainties, the Flyers seem undeterred in their rebuilding phase and appear to be confident about Michkov's imminent arrival as a Philadelphia Flyer. They believe that his skill set and talent will be valuable additions to the team's top six.
