NHL mascots truly bring out a team's personality and allow supporters to engage with a piece of their favourite franchise. For example, Gritty from the Philadelphia Flyers has developed his own fan following in the "city of brotherly love."

Mascots sometimes perform scripts with actors present for entertainment and publicity drawn from the crowd, but on Monday night in Florida, a fan of the Panthers' rival, the Tampa Bay Lightning, went far beyond the line. It was unexpected when the Florida Panthers delivered the Tampa Bay Lighting a crushing 7-1 defeat. It appeared that Lightning supporters were pretty angry, and one of them went as far as attacking the Florida Panthers mascot while he was smiling, believing it was a joke.

There hasn't been any comment on what started it, but based on what we've seen so far and what the video shows, we think the Lightning fan was upset because his team was losing and thought it would be hilarious to attack the Florida Panthers mascot in front of a section full of Lightning fans.
Two employees were observed awkwardly smiling uncomfortably on the side while the confrontation was unfolding, not intervening. Security did not even think about getting involved, which is quite sad and I am sure the Panthers mascot is not too happy about that looking back on the video.
It was certainly a questionable scenario for the Lightning fan, and with the video going viral, let's hope he learns some manners and possibly offers an apology.
