Fans have always joked when a team is constantly losing or like the Arizona Coyotes trade away all your good players having fans accuse them of tanking.
Although players say that no team would ever deliberately tank, we as fans often wonder.
However, according to a post on twitter, it is believed that many teams are losing purposely to offset cap restrictions, if they aren't in the Stanley Cup-pursuant tier.

Greg Wyshynski tweeted this - "You have 16 or 17 teams that want to lose. The cap has incentivized losing: 'Hey, if I'm not going to make the playoffs, I could do better by selling my cap space."
It obviously can't be proved and no players, coaches or General Managers will ever admit it. But if you look at the Chicago Blackhawks for instance Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson is basically trying to trade anyone of value. Like Arizona and Philadelphia will probably be a bottom five NHL team this season.
Now that the NHL media is aware, they may take action on teams purposely tanking. However, I don't see NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman getting involved but, I think tanking needs to be something maybe they can discuss during the NHL General Managers meetings in next off-season.
