Hockey fans have taken notice of the ripping virtual advertisements that are currently airing during NHL broadcasts on arena boards all throughout the league. The National Hockey League told CBC News that despite meeting "a number of technological challenges" along the way, it is "pleased with the integration" of the new, improved dasherboards (DEDs).
The league may not be receiving the kind of attention it desires from DEDs, though, if some of the heated opinions expressed on social media are any indication.
These kinds of advertisements, according to Michael Naraine, an assistant professor of sport administration at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario. Dynamic advertisements won't be going anywhere anytime soon (just like helmet decals and sweater patches), according to Naraine, who stated via email that sport groups trying to diversify their revenue streams after COVID are searching for other revenue sources.
Ah, more incomealmost as if the NHL doesn't already make enough? Check out this breathtaking move from the Blackhawks vs. LA Kings game last night, in which the boards magically cause two hockey players to vanish.
