No Ryan Ellis Means another down year for Provorov?

Flyers Genral Manager Chuck Fletcher met with the media today on what was the first day of training camp for the Philadelphia Flyers. Lots of tough questions certainly came his way but none tougher than being asked about the future of Flyers Defenseman Ryan Ellis, who has been sidelines since the sixth game of last season.
Fletcher's response as is.
"Ryan Ellis is out indefinitely, no timetable for his return to play," general manager Chuck Fletcher said Thursday. "My assumption is he won't play this season. If he does, it'll be a bonus."
Fletcher said the injury is also affecting multiple areas in his abdominal region and that surgery doesn't appear to be an option.

I'm not a doctor, but I believe Fletcher referred to Ryan Ellis' issue today as a torn psoas, in addition to issues with his hip and adductor. "I know we've been probably vague with describing the injury, I think we've called it multifaceted, which it is," he said. "There's a psoas component of this, there's a hip component, there's an adductor component, so I'm not sure that if you go in and repair one part it's going to fix everything we're trying to work with. Trying to get everything back, rehab everything back. I've never heard of an injury like this. It's very complicated. Torn psoas is a very significant injury for a hockey player, a very rare injury, so we're doing the best we can, and we'll just leave it up to the medical experts."
Also states that the injury could possibly be "career threatening".
With the absence of Ellis this once again means that Ivan Provorov will be carrying the weight for the top line. Having to do this last year, does this mean his game will continue to falter. It's clear that Ivan Provorov is a good defenseman, but when having to take the weight due to an injured partner, he becomes exposed of simple mistakes.
His best year where he had career numbers was with Matt Niskanen. A down year wit "Gus" and he hasn't played enough games with Ellis to even determine what kind of chemistry can be made.
