Jonathan Bailey of Philly Hockey Now pointed out that even though Tippett is playing two minutes less per night this season (15:13) compared to the previous one (17:26), he's on track for a career-high 32 goals and 59 points.
Tippett plays a key top-six role and gets plenty of power play time, recently moving from PP2 to PP1. While his pay is likely to increase from the expiring $1.5 million, the Flyers could keep it reasonable if they start talks sooner. It's a bit surprising that, as Tippett mentioned, there are currently no talks for an extension.
For now, Tippett keeps performing well on the ice, scoring five goals in the last five games. His strong play adds to his bargaining power as his contract situation develops.
