«A New Era» of Flyers hockey is on the horizon. So, what does this really mean for Flyers faithful?
The Philadelphia Flyers, have had a lot of news in the past few days. Surrounding when Danny Briere, will be officially the team General Manager and who the new President of Hockey Operations would be.
Now, the Flyers have given the answer to both of those. As late Wednesday night, news broke out that the team had made a decision on who would help Danny Briere in front office. That being, Keith Jones.
Now the Flyers are again, putting all their pieces into the same basket and hoping for the best. In establishing two fan favourites in roles they may not be qualified for. As this seems to be a repeating story, that the Flyers love to tell.
Must read on FlyersInsider
Keith Jones is a familiar voice as he is was working as the lead color commentator for Philadelphia Flyers on NBC Sports Philadelphia, and the lead "Inside-the-Glass" reporter on TNT.
Now he turns to a new chapter, President of Hockey Operations. The Flyers organization and fan base speaks very highly of Keith, as he can be a cut throat guy when need be and has a great hockey mind. Perfect to along side another great mind, in Danny Briere.
In the grand scheme of things, as of right now not a lot has changed for the Flyers. As they continue to lead with their old ways, bringing in old alumni instead of new faces with an outside perspective. Even going as far as saying «A New Era of Orange», yet the orange being used is just from the 90's.
Danny Briere, being slotted into the General Manager was highly expected and anticipated, as the Flyers faithful seem pleased with his plan so far. As Danny Briere, becomes the 10th General Manager in the teams history.
The true «goal» for the Flyers organization, still hasn't changed. Which is to win. What the team addressed on Thursday morning, is very ironic and contradicts itself. As the team is basically (within context) admitting the organization has screwed up. Stating, When you don the Orange and Black, you're held to a specific set of standards, and you're expected to show up and work your ass off. Every. Single. Day. It's about doing things the right way.
No excuses. No shortcuts.»
Which many prior GM's, Head Coaches, and Presidents, have failed terribly to do. Almost to the point of grabbing a shovel, and digging the team into a hole themselves.
The Philadelphia Flyers, will be hosting a press conference tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. ET. at the Wells Fargo Center, giving the Flyers fans a chance to hear from the new guys in office.
The conference will be streamed live on the Philadelphia Flyers YouTube.
This is another wait and see kind of deal, which not many people like, myself included. But hopefully Danny Briere, sticks to his guns and stands by what he is saying, in order to turn this organization around.
