On Saturday morning, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed goaltender Samuel Ersson to a two-year, $2.9 million contract at $1.45 million AAV.

Lead Flyers writer at The Athletic, Charlie O'Connor, questions the time of the signing. But says it also shows how highly the organization views Samuel Ersson. Charlie said, «Interesting they signed him so soon. He's still under contract for the entirety of 2023-24, even before this new one kicks in. Speaks to how highly the organization views him, and that they suspect he'll get significant NHL time this coming season. Otherwise, why not wait?»
After a hot start to his Philadelphia Flyers career in 2022-23, Samuel Ersson, went undefeated in his first six starts: only allowing 10 goals across the six along with a shutout.

This contract is a great bridge deal from GM Danny Briere. Despite the 23-year-old goaltender having a strong first season, he would have to do it consistently in order to sign a larger contract.
Samuel Ersson, was drafted in 2018 by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 5th round, 143rd overall. That was 5 years ago now and Ersson is still only 23.
What Does This Mean For Carter Hart?
A lot of Flyers fans are concerned that Carter Hart may be traded or involved in the 2018 WJC sexual assault scandal. Now, I'm not here to pass blame. Nor, do I know for sure if Carter Hart was apart of the events that transpired. But I will say, I don't think he was apart of it and it doesn't seem like something he'd do. As for the trade rumours. Those are still speculation and could be something later on in the year or next trade deadline.
Which could be why GM Danny Briere is trying to cover all bases, signing goaltenders and trading for them. All though, bringing in Cal Petersen was to acquire a draft pick more then anything.
Time will tell where the Flyers go from here but it should be interesting to see.
