Recently the New York Rangers announced their new captain after a 3-4 season drought of having one. The team has proven that they are better, and a leader was emerging to become captain. Although, people were surprised on the choice over Kreider, but that's a different story for a different day. I agree with the decision of announcing a captain for the Rangers, but I don't agree for the Flyers. Not even a little bit.
The Flyers are in the pool of lost players. Who has a role? Where are the leaders? There are veterans on this team, but WHO IS THE LEADER? There is a difference. I would not announce a captain until someone shows they can manage that role. Whoever it may be.
It doesn't have to be for a 4-year absence of a captain, but it sure doesn't have to be announced now. Something this team has lacked is accountability. A move like this shows that these players will be held accountable. Don't announce a captain until there is a true leader on this team.
