The hockey world mourns the loss of Brian O'Neil, who passed away at the age of 94. Hailing from Montreal, O'Neil's significant contributions began in 1966 when he was appointed the league's director of administration by President Clarance Campbell. He played a pivotal role in expanding the NHL by adding six more teams, effectively doubling its size for the 1967-1968 season. After Campbell's tenure, O'Neil became NHL Vice President until his retirement in 1992. Over his 50-year service to the sport, he witnessed its growth from a smaller league to what it is today. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the O'Neil family, and a memorial will be held in Montreal on September 2nd. May he rest in peace.
