When you look at Owen Tippett's offensive production since his arrival (4 points in 17 games) with the Flyers, there's nothing to write home about. However, there's something encouraging in his game: he is still playing well and he creates a lot in the offensive zone.
But since his debut in the NHL with the Panthers, he always had the problem of not being able to capitalize on his chances. And here's why there's a similarity between Scott Hartnell and Owen Tippett. The former had the same difficulties early in his career before seeing his offensive production picking up.
"It took me a few years to realize, OK, I can play with these guys and I can score goals (...) And I found my niche in front of the net on the power play, tipping goals, recovering pucks and things like that," said Hartnell.
Tippett hasn't been able yet to "unlock" his potential. But if he continues like that, his production will go upwards.
I really recommend you to read the article written by Charlie O'Connor from The Athletic. It's a great piece on Tippett and how he can unlock his potential.
