The Flyers are at their lowest point ever

For what it's worth, there aren't many positives to look forward to this season. In normal circumstances, it would a an amazing and big event. The battle of Pennsylvania. But when one club has been consistently competing and strong in the postseason and the other a chronic under-performer, nothing feels the same.

I hate to say it but this might be one of the lowest points in recent Flyers history. If we as a fanbase are getting riled up at the thought of Zack MacEwen laying a hit on Sidney Crosby, we have already lost. Jamey Baskow, Flyers reporter, tweeted this:

"It doesn't matter if the Flyers are out of it or not. Anytime they play Pittsburgh it's fun. Hopefully Zack MacEwen puts Sidney Crosby on his bottom."

It feels like a crime to put Crosby and MacEwen in the same sentence but here we are. This is the Flyers now. Although it would be nice to see a big hit on Sid, if that's the only reason you're watching the game, you're in for a letdown.

"It would be nice to Zack MacEwen lay a big open ice hit on Sidney Crosby today. He would receive a standing ovation, while he pumps up the crowd. Fans would then want Fletcher to ink him to a new contract tomorrow".

This would be true if there were even enough fans at Wells Fargo to cheer the team on. But the truth is, we are lightyears behind the Penguins and Crosby is better than every player the Flyers have had in the last 20 years combined.

What's more likely to happen is the Flyers' regress to a 24-44-11 record while Crosby doesn't get hit by MacEwan; but dangles around Keith Yandle, Zack MacEwen and Ivan Provorov all at once while his line mates score for fun.
