Birthdays are always special days for the ones who celebrate them, and today we celebrate the birthday of former Flyer's captain- Peter Forsberg.
Peter Forsberg was drafted sixth overall in the 1991 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, only to be part of the trade that brought Eric Lindros to town and sent Forsberg to the Nordiques. I still wonder what would have happened if that trade didn't go down, hmm? Forsberg played his first game against the Flyers and had gotten his first assist; he scores his first goal 6 days later against the Sabers. The Nordiques were eventually sold and became the Colorado Avalanche, he played from 1995-2004 with these teams.
The lockout has started in 2004 to 2005, and that is what brought Peter Forsberg to the Black and Orange. Forsberg became the 15th captain in franchise history, taking over for Derian Hatcher, who was interim captain when Keith Primeau retired. Forsberg's tenure here didn't last too long, he suffered major foot issues and show sign of slowing down.
Forsberg was traded to the Nashville Predators at the final year of his contract, bringing in Ryan Parent, Scottie Upshall, and Nashville's first- and third-round 2007 picks to boost Nashville's playoff run.
