In an unanimous 7-0 vote, the Tempe city council voted to approve the Coyotes arena/entertainment project. While that may be good news, all it means is that the council passed the buck to the voters. They will decide on May 16, 2023 if the project gets the final approval.

With NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy Commissioner Bill Daly in attendance at the council meeting, there were promises made towards the future.
«This was a great night,» said Xavier A. Gutierrez, Coyotes president and CEO. «The Arizona Coyotes and the Meruelo family (the team's majority owner) are deeply thankful to the Tempe City Council for their unanimous support and cannot wait to move forward on this transformational development.»

The $2.1 billion project is going to include a practice rink for the Coyotes, a restaurant row, a retail center, two hotels, a private medical office campus,1,995 residential units and a 3,500-person theater.
The next step will be for the team to gather enough signatures to put the referendum on the ballot for voter approval. That should cement any doubts that the city of Tempe and the state of Arizona wants this to happen.
While the team has struggled and hasn't been a Cup contender, all that could change as the GM Bill Armstrong is building a strong team with draft picks and up and coming players like Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley.
In the eyes of the Coyotes management, this new arena and entertainment project could propel the team to new heights and success.
Even with all the negative comments from critics, they can't deny that the NHL and Bettman are behind this project. It will mean that Arizona will have a premier attraction for the millions of visitors it receives every year.
If they're not hockey fans now, they soon will be.
