The NHL coaching carousel continues with Peter Laviolette being hired by another Metropolitan Division team. He will now lead the New York Rangers, taking over from Gerard Gallant.

Chris Drury, the team's general manager, has ensured that Laviolette is well compensated with a contract worth $4.9 million, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the league.

Although his last Stanley Cup win was with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, Laviolette has had successful stints with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Nashville Predators, leading both teams to the Stanley Cup Finals.
However, his time with the Washington Capitals was not as fruitful.
Whether Laviolette can guide the Rangers to success this season remains to be seen, as the team is still in contention..
