That's a very unfortunate news for the Colorado Avalanche.

Earlier today, the organization announced that Gabriel Landeskog, the Avalanche captain and the club's best goalscorer, was out for an undetermined period of time because of a knee injury. Samuel Girard will also be out for at least 4 weeks.
Thus, it means now that Joe Sakic will have a LOT of cap space available for the trade deadline. Chuck Fletcher will absolutely have to take advantage of this situation. For the moment, the Avalanche are hoping that Landeskog can comeback for the playoffs, but nothing is certain. If they had to enter the playoffs without one of their top-6 player and captain, Claude Giroux will automatically become even more attractive for them.
And Fletcher could use this argument to increase his asking price to let go Giroux.
