With the NHL trade deadline only nine days away, some NHL executives are worried and surprised with the lack of movement ahead of Mar. 21.
According to insider Chris Johnston, this year's deadline is slow and many teams are worried about committing to rentals or even players with heavy cap hits due to the imminent flat cap.
"Quiet. Extremely quiet. Scary how quiet it is. No one wants to commit."

With this in mind, the Flyers have largely been labeled as sellers. But with the recent resigning of
Rasmus Ristolainen, taking him off the trade block only
Claude Giroux, Derick Brassard,
Travis Konecny and Justin Braun are likely to be sold.
The Leafs, who have recently struggled defensively have made it clear that they are in the market for a top 6 winger with grit and a reliable defenceman. Not to start rumors but don't Konecny and Braun fit those criteria?
Flyers Nitty Gritty reporter Jamey Baskow reports this too.
"Justin Braun will have many suitors, as I have been saying for a few weeks (Florida, Boston, and do not forget the Leafs). The Leafs may make a big push for his services"
Chris Johnston and Pierre LeBrun have also noted that the Leafs management and scouts have been taking a hard look at the flyers.
If the Leafs do move for Braun, Lehigh Valley Phantoms reporter Tony Androckitis eyes
Timothy Liljegren as a potential return.
"I can't really explain why, or have any stats to back up my personal feelings, but if RHD Timothy Liljegren could be had from #Leafs at the trade deadline the #Flyers should be all over that IMO."
Although mainly speculation, we must remember that Androkitis will have seen Liljegren play many times with the Marlies and his opinion should not be downplayed. Drafted 17th overall in 2017, Liljegren has 1 goal and 14 assists in 41 games played this season. A coveted right hand defenceman with huge upside. He also has 10 points in his last 14 games played.
Both Liljegren and Braun's values are trending upwards but for a playoff aspiring team like the Leafs, parting ways with a young unestablished player for a feisty veteran is the safer and smarter move.
If Chuck Fletcher can pull this off, we should announce him as the fleece king!
