Back in 1996, I was just turning 16 years old, and I witnessed one of the if not the best goalie fights ever seen. The game in question was between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Flyers back when the Flyers played in the Spectrum. Both teams shared a mutual loathing between one another and in this game, tempers flared very quickly near the end.
During that time the Maple Leafs were a much more inferior squad were getting manhandled by the superior Flyers losing 3 to 1. Once the horn sounded at the end of the third Ron Hextall the former goalie and general manager of the Flyers skated right down to the other end to take on Toronto's number one goalie Felix Potvin .
I have seen several goalies fight in my life, as a long-standing fan of the game I do have to say though this fight was probably the best one because both players certainly made a statement on their fighting ability. Surprisingly Felix Potvin did exceptionally well against the tough and physical Hextall.
