Flyers head coach John Tortorella has been well known throughout his career as the head coach of any hockey team, and his words carry weight. The firebrand style that he exhibits in practice, on the bench, and with the media can certainly be legendary and highly quote-worthy.
Fast forward to this year, and it appears that yet again, Tortorella feels that his player is ugly when asked about Flyers defenseman Marc Staal. His description of Staal's style certainly did not win any contests for Torts, and he explained to Bill Meltzer.
In all three cases, Torts was referring to their skating style and style of play, as it looked unorthodox and strange to the head coach. Their style will be overlooked as long as it's effective, and the player is doing what Torts is asking of them.
