It's safe to say the first half of the Flyers season has been nothing but a pleasant surprise. Many fans and pundits across the league felt the Flyers would be near the bottom of the standings and not even close to challenging a playoff spot.
That is far from the case as the Flyers are still nestled in the third position in the metro division and preparing to start the second half of the year.
Head coach John Tortorella explained in a media scrum yesterday that his team needs to shake off its recent five game losing streak as they prepare to play the Florida Panthers.

Whether it is an excuse on what happened in January, the Flyers have been regrouping and trying to find their winning ways again, while losing their number one goaltender to the Hockey Canada scandal.
The race remains tight in the metro division as both the Islanders and the Penguins along with the New Jersey Devils are trying to get themselves ready for a run down the stretch and remain between five and six points behind the Flyers.
One of the more important parts of their season that needs to turn around is their home record. In the past 50 games, they have gone 11-12-2 which is unacceptable for a team trying to make the playoffs.
Once the Flyers get back to their defensive ways and have their goaltending stabilized, it's expected the Flyers to get back on track and secure their first playoff spot in three seasons.
