More: Season ends before it started Atkinson to have neck surgery, Flyers feel for him
"I can see how effective he can be if he just concentrates on his game, being who he is," head coach John Tortorella said Monday about Allison. "I think he kind of gets lost sometimes. Still a young guy, has to learn, but I think he's been very coachable. We've had a number of conversations.
"I do think he was playing really well at the time that he was injured. I just want him to pick up where he left off there. He'll have some struggles, there will be some rust, he's been out a while."

General manager Chuck Fletcher said Couturier is "doing real well."
The 30-year-old center, recovering from a second back surgery, could start skating in two to three weeks.
Couturier is over a month and three weeks into his three-to-four-month recovery.
Prospect Bobby Brink will see Dr. Christopher Larson in Minneapolis this week with the hope of the 21-year-old winger being fully cleared. Brink, a 2019 second-round pick, underwent surgery during July to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.
"He's been skating regularly, but getting into the contact, getting in lines, doing the line drills, all that," Fletcher said, "hopefully that comes pretty quickly for him."
