Well, this is going to be an interesting two-part series for Flyers Fans to ponder on. Over history, the Flyers have moved on from players at the worst time. We are seeing Wade Allison not signed yet and it starts to get the brain thinking. Are they planning on moving on from him and not signing? Well think about this one.
What if the Flyers had not moved on from Patrick Sharp?
After completing two years with Vermont, Sharp signed an entry level contract with the Flyers on May 21, 2002, eventually making his NHL debut in 200304, splitting the season between the Flyers and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms no known as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, recording seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in 41 regular season games with the Flyers, and 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 35 games for the Phantoms.
Due to the 200405 NHL lockout, Sharp spent the entire following season in the AHL with the Phantoms, registering 23 goals and 29 assists (52 points) in 75 regular-season games and eight goals and 13 assists (21 points) in 21 playoff games en route to a Calder Cup championship.

In the 2005-2006 season. Flyers decided to move on from Patrick Sharp and traded him away to the Chicago Blackhawks along with Eric Meloche and received Matt Ellison and a third-round pick for the 2006 NHL Draft. Not knowing the mistake then, the Flyers have just said goodbye to a player who would win multiple Stanley Cups and become a NHL Hall of Famer.
Sharp's game had rapidly got better with the Blackhawks in 200708, recording career-highs of 36 goals, 26 assists and 62 points. He led the Blackhawks in power play goals (9), shorthanded goals (7) and game-winning goals (7). Near the half-way mark for the season, on January 17, 2008, Sharp signed a new, four-year contract with the Blackhawks lasting through to the end of the 201112 season.
On June 9, 2010, Sharp won the Stanley Cup with Chicago over the Philadelphia Flyers, his former team. He contributed 11 goals and 11 assists during Chicago's 2010 playoff run. This was his First cup and revenge had to be on the mind of the player who was dealt just to early from the team who drafted him.
Sharp went on to win his third Stanley Cup championship with the Blackhawks in 2015. He scored five goals with 10 assists during the playoffs.
Why did the Flyer's move on from such a dominant player in the league?
