The last time the World Cup of Hockey was held was in 2016, which was six years ago. Seven nations and one population, called "Team NA (North America)," competed in a week's worth of tournament games to determine which nation would win. And there was the Canadian squad, which also included Steven Stamkos, Claude Giroux, Jonathan Toews, and other NHL all-stars.

As indicated above, a brand-new squad called "Team NA" was formed, and it featured a number of talented young players who were born in North America, including Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, Shane Gostisbehere, John Gibson, and Connor McDavid. The World Cup of Hockey will return in four years, but the astonishing news that it is being planned stunned the hockey community this summer. Nevertheless, fans were thrilled that it was happening. It was decided by Gary Bettman and the NHLPA that it will now be in five years, starting in February 2025. Truly discouraging
