Well, things just got a whole lot more interesting for the Philadelphia Flyers and general manager Chuck Fletcher. Defenseman Matt Niskanen has informed the team that he has decided to retire. This announcement has really caught the Flyers by surprise. According to Elliotte Friedman, Niskanen told the Flyers a little while ago that he's walking away from hockey, the team wanted him to think about it a bit, he did and he's retiring. At 33 years old, Niskanen played a key part of the defense this year after being acquired by the Flyers. Friedman adds that because of the announcement, Fletcher is currently working hard to re-sign Justin Braun.
