"The Philadelphia Flyers have been searching for their long-term number one goaltender since general manager Ron Hextall hung up his skates.

Hextall has been stockpiling young goaltenders in the system. He started at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft when he selected three goaltending prospects in Felix Sandstrom, Matej Tomek and Ivan Fedotov. However, the best prospect in the pipeline was taken in the second round of the following draft in Carter Hart.

Hart was named the Western Hockey League's Goaltender of Week on Monday for going 3-0-0 while giving up just two goals on 111 shots for a .928 save percentage and a 0.67 goals-against average.

Winning awards is nothing new for Hart this season as this was the fourth straight week in which he was named the Goaltender of the Week. He was also named the Goaltender of the Month for November. Apparently, it will be more of news story when he doesn't win the weekly award going forward.

Hart won the CHL Goaltender of the Year award for the 2015-16 season and was the WHL Goaltender of the Year last season. He is the early season favorite to win both awards again this season with his 13-3-1 record to goal along with a .961 save percentage, a 1.32 goals-against average and a league high five shutouts.

Flyers fans will be able to get a good look at Hart as he is expected to be Team Canada's top goaltender at the World Junior Championship which starts on December 26.

Do you think Carter Hart is the goaltender of the future for the Philadelphia Flyers?
