The Philadelphia Flyers have a huge to-do list for new general manager Chuck Fletcher and one of them might be to blow things up. The main objective is to get things back on track this season however the team has dug such a big hole that it might not be possible to climb back out of. As of right now it looks like the plan is to unload some players before the trade deadline including Wayne Simmonds, Michael Raffl and Michal Neuvirth so that the team has a bit of extra cap space during the summer to sign restricted free agents Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton and Travis Sanheim. Once that's done, it's expected that Fletcher will be given permission to use as much cap space as possible and be allowed to trade some of the Flyers prospects to speed up Ron Hextall's timeline of "two to three years" to get back to being serious contenders. On top of that, it looks like Fletcher will likely be given permission to move some of the nine draft picks that Philly has in the upcoming 2019 draft. If the Flyers can somehow get things back on track immediately, expect Fletcher to move some of those picks and maybe prospects to get some immediate help. Either way, Fletcher will likely use the month of December to evaluate the team and depending which way they go, we can expect some moves starting to be made when the calendar flips to 2019.
